Fuji XPRO-1 + 35mm f/1.4 XF R
Sundays. They’re always extremely, incredibly, ridiculously busy. But not this past Sunday, when we decided to do absolutely nothing. at. all. Except for hang out at Four Barrel. Hey, we all need a lazy day to recharge every now and then, don’t we?
Forgot to charge the XPRO-1 after shooting with it the night before, so it died before I could take more than one frame (above). Doh. Took the following spread with the X100, which I still love! Hey, it’s lighter, smaller, quieter, and at least to me, prettier than the new XPRO, so it stays in the bag:
I always get a kick out of how much attention Suki gets when she’s around crowds of people.
“Is that a fox-wolf-coyote-jindo-akita-teddy-bear-basenji-finnish-spitz!?!?! No wait, isn’t that one of them Shibu Ibubus?!?!?!?!?!” Followed by lots of pats on her head and scratches behind her ears. She loves it.
Not a good year for Suki so far, though. She’ll be out of commission for two weeks while she recovers from yet another bout with allergies that flared up right after we enjoyed this one lazy day together. Cone of shame!
Every now and then I go through and purge “junk” images from my archives, and as I’m deleting the throw-away images, I always discover forgotten keepers like these shots of Suki. The one up top has some weird flare in the frame, but I love Suki’s expression. Taken with my now retired Nikon D300s and Tokina 50-135. Two strobes to my right are combating the really bright background to provide light on Suki’s face.
Another shot with the D300s and 35mm f/1.8G, an excellent lens that I still use when I shoot DX.
And this…is just hilarious.
Life is pretty good for this Shiba Inu. The day begins on whatever soft surface she decides to sleep on through the night.
“Please don’t bug me with that camera.”
Next is usually some dog-centric outing, like a run along the beach:
In return, she has to tolerate her photo-geek dad chasing her around with cameras and lights. I think she gave me as much attitude as she could in the photo below. Can’t you see it on her face?
And of course, the day always ends where it began:
Yup, a good life for a Shiba.

I recently went over some of the images I took on what till this day I still consider to be my favorite photo walk ever. Thinking about exploring the rain soaked streets of Kyoto on our most recent visit to Japan brings back some great memories of that beautiful city.
These photographs were originally processed in color, but I spent the night yesterday converting them into a simulation of Kodak Tri-X black and white film. VSCO rocks, y’all.
I miss this place.
